Smart Meter Installation Begins in Sikar Under Multi-Year Power Upgrade Project

Sikar, May 21: The smart meter installation drive officially began in Sikar on Tuesday under the Smart Meter Project. The first installation was carried out near the Old Power House, marking the beginning of a large-scale transformation of the city’s electricity infrastructure.

According to Sanjeev Pareek, City XEN, a detailed survey of existing meters had been underway for the past month. “Now, the installation phase has begun. Initially, faulty meters in the city will be replaced, followed by single-phase, three-phase, and LTCT (Low Tension Current Transformer) meters,” Pareek said. The project is planned to run over the next three years.

As part of the launch, 30 trained teams have been deployed across the district to replace old meters with smart meters in a phased manner. These smart meters will enable users to monitor electricity consumption in real-time through a mobile application, providing greater control, transparency, and awareness of energy usage.

Gunjan Goswami, Senior Engineer at Genus Power, added, “Smart meters are a government-led initiative that empowers consumers with minute-by-minute tracking of electricity usage from anywhere via an app. This enhances transparency and promotes energy-saving behavior.”

This project marks a significant milestone in Sikar’s journey toward a digitally managed and energy-efficient power distribution system, aligning with national smart grid goals and digital India initiatives.
